The
Florida Theatre
Our last day at our new favorite hotel was spent on the patio. We just hated to leave our spots for the restaurant, and our server generously agreed to feed us breakfast in front of the ocean.
We lingered over
coffee to see if Thelma's Greek shipping tycoon would show up as he had
promised (he didn't) and we hoped he hadn't died of old age in his sleep.
I wasn't in any hurry to leave the hotel and move on, and groused at the
thought of our lousy 5th row seats. We cleared out our room and got
on the road in good time for Jacksonville. We arrived in Jacksonville
at 6ish and found Louise down a bit from the venue. She had scouted
out a modest Italian restaurant that was adequate for our needs and we
caught up over Diet Coke and spaghetti.
There was a minor commotion in the restaurant when it dawned on Thelma that her seat was not where she liked it. She jumped up to check the box office for help and I followed to stretch my legs. I was sitting on a bench in front of the box office, when a nicely dressed lady passed by me, saying at the perfect time "anyone want tickets?" I stopped her and asked where they were, and was startled to hear that she was trying to sell a pair of front row. At face value! I quickly relieved her of them, and began to play back the conversation in the car, which was as follows: Me: Are we going to stop anywhere to freshen up? Thelma and SueC in unison: Hell no! We're in the 5th row, remember? I comforted myself with the fact that I was wearing clean underwear and have the peculiar talent of being invisible on the front row. I was in no danger of pointed fingers and derisive laughter. Our luck continued, and Louise and SueC moved up to the second row and we ventured into the venue. THE
VENUE
The Florida Theatre is a beautiful small venue with a Spanish theme. The lobby is stucco and the balcony is hung with pots of geraniums. The auditorium is lovely and understated with a gorgeous ceiling of wooden squares and muted colors. The box office was selling a few singles in the back rows and was very close to sold out. THE FASHION REPORT GE- Jimi Hendrix shirt, black slacks, black shirt with white embroidery second half RT- White long slvd shirt, black slacks, no change at half JH- Black Oxford shirt stolen from JL's closet, black slacks, no change at half.
